Computer Pains

It has been just over two weeks since my last post, but the challenges here are a part and parcel of doing this business on a very part-time basis.

I was in the middle of planning a weekend trip to Philadelphia the city of brotherly love.

Because I also have a fulltime job and I realize that I needed to utilize my downtime as efficiently as possible if I ever intend on seeing any type of success in this online business.

For this reason I have both a desktop and a laptop to facilitate the maximizing the time in a more efficient manner. However both systems decided to have issues around the same time, the following is the story of my laptop.

Although the system is only a year old without warning both the motherboard and CPU died. To make matters worse, after taking my system to the manufacturer service center, a job which should have been a week, mushroomed into more than a one month repair job.

And this was not all because after the return of the system the mouse would frequently lock-up maybe about 1 out every 5 reboots. In addition a utility program which was installed from factory installed settings, just always seemed to crash each time the system is booted up.

This problem just became so much of a bother that after a month of trying to work around the problems I finally decided to call the service department.

Believe it or not that is where my real problems began! Because when the technician began to troubleshoot, he never fully informed of what I should expect, especially after his final set of instruction.

Bear in mind this was a telephone walk through of the system, the intended purpose was to find the root cause of these issues.

So the technician would instruct and I would perform the commands. Finally it led to a set of instructions that in essence is a reset back to factory settings.

After resetting the system, when the system shut down which I thought was the completed set-up. This only occurred because the technician never properly explain that this was a factory reset procedure, which would result in:

  1. A lost all data stored on the hard drive
  2. That the restoration procedure required more than an hour set-up time.

At this point I was just a day from my trip to Philadelphia.  The afternoon I went to work, and as per usual during my down time at work I tried to boo-up the system to get online. This where I found out the system was still in setup mode, so I had to wait as it continued the setup.

Needless to say I did not get any online, and had no indications of a greater issue. When the setup was completed I could no longer access the internet.

I taught the issue was just a poor connection but little did I know the system was not restored properly. This was a real kick in the head, because now I am on the road in Philadelphia and had no clued I still would not be gain access to the internet.

In Philadelphia there was just not enough time to explore the issue any further. Because it was really about our young people church convention and there was not a lot of leeway to allow for trouble shooting the problem, it just had to wait until I get back to Toronto.

Getting back to Toronto didn’t really solve my problems because it took three telephone sessions over the course of four days to finally figure this out.

So here I am now two weeks later getting ready to tackle my desktop but more importantly I can now continue my Partnership to Success program.
